Burr Ridge and Oak Brook Community Information

Burr Ridge

Situated amid gently rolling hills and majestic forests, Burr Ridge is named for the abundance of burr oak trees located along a ridge on County Line Road. Burr Ridge was incorporated in 1956 with a population of less than 300 people. Its current population exceeds 10,000 residents and continues to grow. Municipal leaders and residents appreciate the natural habitat of the community, doing everything possible to improve, protect, and preserve the beautiful trees and natural resources that define the village. In 1997, Burr Ridge was recognized as one of the 300 wealthiest communities in America. Because of its large commercial tax base, the community maintains one of the lowest overall municipal tax rates in the region. Burr Ridge is just minutes away from downtown Chicago and from the city's major airports. This upscale suburb is highly desirable for many reasons. In addition to its convenient location, Burr Ridge provides its residents with some of the best private and public schools in Illinois. It also offers a wealth of outdoor and indoor recreational activities. Several jogging and bike paths are available to residents. There are several golf courses, tennis courts, fishing ponds, fitness centers and aquatic facilities in the area. Proximity to Oak Brook Shopping Center adds further appeal to the village. Large, estate-sized properties as well as upscale townhouse and manor home communities are available.

The history of Burr Ridge began in the garage of a Bartlett's Estates resident. An official decision was made to incorporate the Village of Harvester on October 30, 1956. Several years later, in August 1962, the name of the community was changed to Burr Ridge. Today this community is recognized as an ideal place to live and continues to expand and improve.

Oak Brook

Oak Brook has set aside more than 100 acres of parkland for jogging, walking and biking. The community offers an abundance of fishing ponds, soccer fields, tennis courts and aquatic facilities. Oak Brook's famed polo field is a hallmark of the community and several distinguished golf courses are located in and around the area.

Oak Brook's business community is home to international and national headquarters for companies such as Ace Hardware, McDonald's, Blistex and Lions Club International. This corporate presence increases the daytime population of Oak Brook from a permanent 8,800 residents to approximately 100,000 people each day.

Oak Brook was originally a small agricultural community called Fullersburg. Two families, the Fullers and the Butlers, shaped its development. Arriving in 1834, Ben Fuller was the first settler in the area. The Fullers founded a small settlement and the Butlers developed a model community; soon other farmers and merchants flocked to the area and a community was established.
